How can you make a change of roles part of a bachata combination? Give the transition a small, repeatable practice task. In Bachata RoleRotation Combo 4, Felipe y Tiago teach another combination with a role change within the sequence.
What is the focus of Combo 4?
The class includes switching roles smoothly in the middle of a combo. Study the movement in each role, then return to the demonstrated transition. Keep the practical aim clear: a combination that can be communicated through leading and following during a shared dance.
Practise the approach to the switch
Choose a short section that includes the movement before the role change and the movement after it. Agree on the task with your partner. Begin with roles clearly assigned, then use the class explanation to study what changes at the transition.
If either person is unsure, shorten the section and return to the demonstration. Repeating the same entry and exit gives you a useful comparison. Ask about one concrete moment, such as when the new leading task became understandable.
Give both roles their own practice time
You can learn a familiar section in one role, exchange roles between attempts and then practise the within-dance transition. Each task deserves attention. Keep the pace appropriate to the newer perspective for both people.
Bring the combination into a social-dance task
Once a section feels understandable, practise a clear entry from familiar material and a return to your basic. Agree that role rotation is part of the shared dance, and give each transition the attention needed for both people to follow the changing task.
