Styling should never have genders, bachata stlying has no gender, movement is genderless. When learning a bachata styling class there will always be movements that you will be more comfortable with and others that you will feel that doesn't work for your body. And THAT'S OK! Dance classes that are just called "styling" will always be better than "ladies styling" Or "men styling" because they will not be dependent on what the culture for men and women dictates in each place. That division of dance movement between genders only makes that you will only learn so much and you will be losing a lot.

Is it man styling? Is it Ladies styling? Or is it just styling?

Is styling for everyone and for all levels?

Today in this article we want to talk about two topics by using some of the tips you can learn during the online dance classes at www.rolerotationacademy.com . so check some sneak peeks from some of these online dance classes:

Different Levels, Different Options

First and foremost, Yes, styling is for everyone, leaders, followers, advanced dancers, intermediate and also beginners. Sometimes it’s hard to know if a class is going to be really hard or really easy just because it says intermediate level class or beginner level class. That’s the reason dance teachers sometimes give different options for the moves at @rolerotationacademy. That way you can always keep improving in dance without having that feeling of frustration sometimes appears when a class is just way to hard.

Check here an example from one of the many salsa solo online dance classes you can do:

Dissociation and Isolation

Now when practicing bachata or salsa styling, one of the most thing you can work before going to the actual moves is to focus on your isolations. A lot of time it’s really hard in live regular classes to focus on the dance technique of each move because of the amount of time and people a dance teacher has in the dance class. But, even though it can be difficult we should always focus on the foundation, and the dance technique of each movement.

Check here a quick tip from a body movement class on coordination, dissociation and isolation at the Online Dabce Academy that it will help you liberating your body today 😜:

Being a dancer is different than being a follower!

Indeed being a dancer is much more than just being just a good leader or just a good follower may it be in bachata, in salsa or in other social dances. A lot of dancers only focus on the combos and end up using always the same styling. You should also focus on your styling so you dont look like anybody else!

Here it is a good example with the famous bachata windmill arm movement you can do.

Sometimes it’s hard to come up with a different variation of a very used bachata styling such as the windmill. And it becomes boring to always be repeating the same thing over and over again. That’s why, by doing this you can slightly change the way you do your windmill to give a different and more original effect on the dance floor.

And just two quick secrets in case you don’t know, at the online dance academy there is an entire online dance class dedicated on how you can make your windmill more interesting where we teach you not 1, not 2 but 10 different ways to do it so you can pick your favourites. And the second secret that that one we know, that you haven’t heard, is that we have a full course/program how to do different styling for the most famous and used moves in bachata! Should we do one for salsa too?

Styling in partnerwork

And we finally arrive to the topic of partnerwork in social dances like bachata or salsa. Indeed styling during partnerwork is very different from when practicing or dancing solo. Sure dancing solo is the best way to train your body but as a follower the styling you can use is sometimes dependent on the position of the leader. So, when following, we should always be careful and mindful of their position!

Here is an example from salsa dancing:

Also , when it comes to safety as followers we always have to be aware of our styling. Some tips on when you can style the moves as a follower:

These are the reasons why at Role Rotation Academy ( @rolerotationacademy ) we focus a lot on dance technique and solo styling for bachata and salsa and not just on learning moves so you can improve your dance faster and better.

Styling tips for leaders

How to style as a leader? how to add styling when I lead? Bachata, Salsa or Kizomba

Now, we feel that the majority of dance classes, when talking about styling is always for followers. It’s true that in the end leaders already have to think about leading the move so adding styling might just be too much.

But, we can’t forget that leaders need to look good too! And sometimes, the smallest details make all the difference in dance. Just a changing of a head or a foot position when you dance can make all the difference.

Styling, just styling

Finally we arrive to the second question of this article:

Is it man styling? Is it Ladies styling? Or is it just styling?

First watch this bachata choreography:

Simple? Sure but This choreo was a funny colab between 5 friends after dinner: Vera, Chris, Yvonne, Felipe and Tiago.

Styling should never have genders, bachata stlying has no gender, movement is genderless.

When learning a bachata styling class there will always be movements that you will be more comfortable with and others that you will feel that doesn’t work for your body. And THAT’S OK!
Dance classes that are just called “styling” will always be better than “ladies styling” Or “men styling” because they will not be dependent on what the culture for men and women dictates in each place. That division of dance movement between genders only makes that you will only learn so much and you will be losing a lot.

Instead of telling you what you can do depending on your gender. In our online dance school you will learn all kinds of movement and then we recommend for you to use only the ones you love the most. This way you have the option of understanding and learn what works for you and your body and what doesn’t.

Here it is a clear example:

Remember! At www.rolerotationacademy.com we believe that dance styling is for everyone and it’s equal for all genders, so, learn everything, be versatile and pick after what you like and what you don’t.

Bonus tip – Focus on the Technique

As you probably already arrive to the conclusion, being a good leader and a good follower in bachata, salsa, kizomba or other social dances is amazing, but when doing it with styling is incredible.

Adding different movements to your dancing can really make it more interesting and fun! Try today to do this version of a body roll where you finish in a nice cool dance position.

🤯Don’t forget that back heel up! It will improve your balance and your beautiful dance lines straight away.

This bit is part of an entire bachata styling choreo! Again at @rolerotationacademy styling has no gender! You learn how to do all types of different movements and then it’s your choice to decide what you like for you and your body and what you will use for your social dancing 🔥

Is Social dance safe? Are Social Dances Safe? 6 quick tips that might just save your neck, shoulders, knees and elbows, knees and elbows . Not the pun I intendedIs Social dance safe? 6 quick tips that might just save your neck, shoulders, knees and elbows, knees and elbows ANATOMY FOR DANCERS online dance class

Is Social Dance Safe?

6 quick tips that might just save your neck, shoulders, knees and elbows, knees and elbows. Not the pun I intended.

Short answer to the question: “Is social dance safety?”: Yes, but!

But let’s face it. Dancers can do some crazy stuff to their body when dancing and the danger of social dances such as bachata and salsa is that followers not always know or decide what is going to happen to their body as well as leaders don’t always have 100% the control of the safety of their partner.

Because of that, we give you here 6 of the tips that Felipe y Tiago have said during their online classes at www.Rolerotationacademy.com where you can learn bachata, salsa and other dance styles online from the comfort of your home! These are also on @rolerotationacademy Instagram so don’t forget to give us a follow.

Leadable Arm Windmill

We should always be careful when leading these arm windmills cause when crossing the followers’ arms too much we not only make their opposite shoulder go higher but we might also hurt them. And we don’t want that 😜☝

Stretched Arm and Elbow Safety

One of the biggest mistakes we see on the dance floor is when dancers dont know how to properly use the arms “stretched” movement. One of the ways to protect your arm and joints from hard/harsh leaders or even followers is by never fully stretching your arms but still using them as if they were.

Shoulder safety in social dances

Like Felipe y Tiago like to say: “safety first” in dance💛 and this tip even though there are other ways to do it. We don’t 100 % need to get both shoulders together to do this move. But if you as a leader, do it, you are 100 % sure the follower doesn’t get injured or hurt!

Head rolls – Neck safety

What? Head rolls are not from the neck? Yap, they are not. This is the reason why teacher always say to leaders to never touch the followers neck. Because they shouldn’t be lead from there.

Now if you are one of those dancers that love to try other dance styles as well as likes floorwork, these next two quick dance tips might just protect your knee and back while you dance.

How to land on your knee

How to fall while dancing

This tip might just save you from one of dancers biggest fears 🤣🙈

Break eggs, not your knees!

Come Up Correctly

Unlikely gravity in dance everything that goes down needs to come up.

Always use all the resources you have access too when you dance! Not just what feels easier to use.

In sum:

Always learn and focus on the dance fundamentals, may it be bachata, salsa or kizomba, not just the leading and following techniques, but also on the SAFETY fundamentals for social dances. If you are one of those dancers that always have other issues such has neck or lower back pain (specially in bachata), these are some of the issues Felipe y Tiago always explain, the fundamentals behind the movements so you stop having them or not have those problems at all.

Side note:

Bachata and salsa are still evolving and more and more we get to see other dance styles incorporated in them. Maybe you will not use any floorwork during the socials but it’s definitely fun to do it.

Saying that if don’t forget that at @rolerotationacademy we have online dance classes of other dance styles to complement your bachata, salsa or kizomba and other social dances, so you can try different things to add to your own style. Such as jazz, flamenco, commercial or even just styling and stretching online dance classes in general:

Tips for Turns and Spins in Bachata and Salsa: 4 Quick Tips

Tips for Turns and Spins in Bachata and Salsa: 4 Quick Tips

Today we leave you with 4 quick tips for turns and spins by Felipe y Tiago at Role Rotation Academy.

Note: all these tips are part of different online dance classes at the online dance academy: www.rolerotationacademy.com so enjoy the sneak peeks 😊

Squeeze The Legs

Very self-explanatory but it will make all the difference, check it out a bit of our online dance classes:

Hook turns tips

If you dance salsa then this one is for you:

Are you already using hook turns in your dancing? You can also use it in bachata!

Turn Tip with Role Rotation Bonus

Some turns in salsa you might see as a contragiro. That will help you focusing on the general dance technique of turning instead of trying to seperate each turn you do in different dance techniques.

In this case we are doing a full turn and 45′ with the action of #RoleRotation (the action of rotating roles mid dance – find out more at www.rolerotation.com), which makes it harder because your brain also has to switch from follower to leader during the turn. But hey, it’s dance. Anything is posible and we know you can do it.

Note: If you don’t know both roles you can just not rotate and go for dile que no. Just finish it and go for normal bachata or salsa basic with you maintaining the same role (everything explained in the same class).

Versatility is the key

Finally, the last tip for you today

Versatility is probably one of the hardest things to improve as a social dancer as the majority of the time it’s spent learning partnerwork skills. Ending up leaving for last, one of the most important parts which is self development of ourselves.

@felipeytiago_official are true believers that one of the best things you can do to improve salsa and bachata is definitely do other dance styles.

So today we leave you here a quite interesting variation of a turn you can use and learn that will help you improve your balance, your core and your spotting skills.

Interested in improving your turns and spins?

There is a full online dance program/course at @rolerotationacademy on turns and spins 😜 so if you still get dizzy when you spin or you still only manage one or two turns give that course a look. All the online dance classes are pre-recorded so you can do it at your own time and wherever you are. By the way, we definitely don’t recommend doing all the online spinning course in one go or even in the same day. It might be just too much!!!

In case you don’t know, at the www.rolerotationacademy.com there are NEW PRE-RECORDED ONLINE DANCE CLASSES EVERY WEEK for you to improve your dancing. Alone or with a partner. And everything from the comfort of your house! More than 150 classes already there. And again, pre-recorded, no schedules no nothing. Take your time, repeat, stop, fast forward. You decide! ❤

How to do Body Rolls in Bachata?

Can everyone do body rolls? If your body rolls don’t work watch this!

One of the biggest assumptions some people have especially men, but a lot of women too, is that their body are too stiff, and they will never be able to do a body roll. “It just doesn’t work”

But is this actually true? Lets find out!

Can you do these moves @thetiagoadegas from @felipeytiago_official says here?

If you can, than that means that you can also do body rolls in bachata. And that the reason why is not working is because what you just doesn’t have the link between each movement. YET. That’s right, everyone can do body rolls so ⭐Stop believing you can’t do body rolls

So if your body is “just too stiff” let’s start with some chest mobility exercises because let’s face it you managed to do the hips before didn’t you?

Side body rolls chest mobility

Remember: 💪 You should be careful not to tilt your body when practise your chest mobility for body rolls. So try to maintain the same shoulder level at all time. The use of the arms like you see it here as well as the use of a mirror can really help!

So let’s talk body rolls!

Where do you start your body roll?

https://www.instagram.com/reel/CjqG5SgjAd6/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link

Bodyrolls made easy

Body rolls can be divided in 4 parts:

It doesnt matter how stiff you think you are you can do body rolls and this is how!

Head Technique in Body Rolls

The head also has its place and its own movement on the body roll, but as you will see here, it will be on the way back that we will use it.

Now you know how to use the head during the body rolls. Make sure you make your movement as smooth as possible.

Dinamic Side Body Roll

What about side body rolls?  Yes, they exist and besides teaching you how to do it in this class @Filipaantunes_ also teaches you how to make it dynamic

As you can see  you can play around with your body rolls to make it more dinamic and in tune with the music. Making your movement Dynamic is a very important part of dance because it will help you link to musicality and make you way more interesting!

With or Without Wave?

So let’s see a practical partnerwork example where body rolls can make the difference in transforming an easy move to a cool one 😉

Which one would you pick? I sure prefer the second one but they both look nice. So use both 😊 but having options is always the best part.

Arms for Body Rolls

Finally, I don’t want to finish this article without telling you where your arms are in the middle of all this. They don’t really get in during the actual body rolls but sure we should definitely use them specially when they are not “attached to a leader”.

Obviously we cant just leave them hanging. so we leave you here one of the many styling you can learn form all the styling and partnerwork classes at www.rolerotationacademy.com

The majority of these dance tips come from the technique class on body rolls already at the Role Rotation Academy online dance school. And we also included there some homework exercises for you to improve the smoothness and the flexibility of your body so you can keep improving your dance even after the class!

You all know by now, how much @felipeytiago_official loves to give homework to their students

@rolerotationacademy – Learn much more than just combos. Learn dance technique!
